Summary:
This workshop will focus on the practical application of machine learning in sentiment analysis and text classification. The workshop will go through the applications of classification models, and the statistics, mathematics and machine learning behind them.

Breakdown of Schedule:

• Overview of classification algorithms

• Logistic regression and decision tree algorithms

• Deconstructing the math and statistics behind the logistic regression and decision tree algorithms

• Using logistic regression to detect sentiment and classify texts

Portfolio Project:

Participants will develop a logistic regression model from scratch and use it to predict whether an incoming text is spam!

About the instructor:

Reuben is the Data Scientist at the CARPROOF Product Lab, where he uses machine learning and statistics to transform the vehicle purchasing experience. Prior to joining CarProof, he worked as the Data Scientist at Real Matters (TSX. REAL) which was named as Canada’s most Innovative Company after going public in May of 2017. He hold a BSc. and a MSc. in Statistics, both from the University of Toronto.

In his spare time, he is working to develop the curriculum for a data science boot-camp (stealth) at a prominent Canadian university starting in the fall of 2018!
