Event Details

Join FCJ Refugee Centre and other organizations to a forum to increase the dialogue around forced labour, aka human trafficking as it affects members of the LGBTQ+ Community both locally and globally.

The Forum aims to bring together key stakeholders to identify issues within this unique intersection and work collaboratively to begin to fill in service gaps.

Time: 10am - 3:30pm

 

 

 

SPEAKERS:

 

1. Mercedes Alvarez, Technical Specialist of the “Regional Unit on Migrants in Vulnerable Conditions”, International Organization for Migration. Focus: Migration and LGBTI Populations, strengthening capacities of governments and civil society organizations to protect and assist LGBTI migrant persons in the Mesoamerican Region;

 

2. Chanelle Gallant, activist, educator and community builder in queer, feminist and sex working communities, co-director of the prison abolition project. Focus: LGBTQ people trading/selling sex and the problems with "anti-trafficking";

 

3. Nicole D. McFadyen, Doctoral Candidate, York University, Canada. Focus:Forced Labour, Exploitation, and LGBTQ+ Persons: An Academic Review;

 

4. Kusha/Amir Dadui, Trans Program Coordinator, Sherbourne Health Centre. Focus: Trans migration;


Regsitration fee: 10$ (towards lunch)

Lunch and light refreshments will be provided

FCJ Refugee Centre is a non profit organization.We provide a variety of integration and settlement services that help refugees and newcomers become adjusted to life in Canada: like providing legal information; assistance in pursuing training and education; referrals to community programs that benefit refugees and immigrants; interpretation and translation services; programs on Canadian culture and life; and educational workshops to front-line workers as well as directly to refugee claimants.
