Event description

Description

The Interfaith Dialogues are events where community members from diverse religious and spiritual backgrounds gather to discuss their beliefs in a setting of goodwill and understanding. Each evening's presentation will focus on a theme or topic, with opportunities for audience participation. Dialogues are led by committee facilitators or guest speakers who are knowledgeable about these topics, with the goal of fostering discussion, reflection, and understanding. Come with an open mind and an open heart!

Our guiding theme for the Fall and Winter 2018/19 dialogues is: Practicing Faith in the Age of Social Media

Specific topics informed by the theme will include (but are not limited to):

  • Parenting / Family
  • Diversity / Neighbourhoods
  • Relationships
  • Positive Effects of Social Media on Faith Practices

Have you noticed faith-based practices or values changing as a result of social media? Are you excited or concerned about how perspectives may be shaped by social media? Should religious or spiritual communities use social media? Please come share your opinions, thoughts, and ideas!

Light refreshments will be provided

"Building Interfaith Bridges" is an interfaith project serving the communities of Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Katzie First Nations. We believe that "Interfaith work, when done well, has the power to transform communities. The level of trust that develops in effective interfaith groups provides a safe “container” for asking powerful questions. As that trust radiates out into the community, so does the power of those questions." (David Dalley, former Ridge Meadows Building Interfaith Bridges Coordinator and co-founder of Surrey Interfaith Council)

Grow Peace. Foster Compassion. Build Stronger Communities.
