About this event
This course is designed to help operators and maintenance staff have a deeper understanding of the workings of their facilities. Knowing how systems function will help the operators and maintenance staff better understand when repairs are required and how to perform preventative maintenance. This course is designed to manage any type of municipal facilities including private facilities. It allows practitioners to have a better level of communication with contractors and tradespeople for troubleshooting and coordinating repairs. Higher level of understanding to troubleshoot, perform repairs, train staff, and lifecycle planning. The practical advice provided in the course is a must for anyone responsible for the day-to-day operations and supervision of recreation facility.
Topics covered along with class participation include:
- HVAC
- Electrical and Plumbing
- Control Systems
- Boilers
- Fire Suppression and Safety
- Building Envelop (Foundation, Cladding, Windows and Roofing)
Primary Audience: Course is intended for Facility operators, maintenance staff and supervisors responsible for the day-to-day operations of a recreation facility with more than 5 years of experience.
Prerequisites: No prerequisite is required but some knowledge of building operators is beneficial.
Mode of Training: The course is classroom based instruction with a tour of the host facility for discussion and demonstration (if applicable).
Course Materials: Registrants will receive a course binder of the topics and other relevant handouts.
Health and Safety Equipment: Steal toe shoe/boots are required for the facility tour.

It is important to recognize that this event will adhere to any Government of Saskatchewan Public Health Orders that are in effect at the time of delivery.
The COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing. To reduce the chances of transmission, participants are encouraged to take preventative actions, such as masking, social distancing and regular hand washing over the duration of the course. If you are feeling sick in any way, or have tested positive for COVID-19 within the five days prior to the course, you are asked to cancel your registration and not attend the event.
Any behaviour that intentionally threatens the physical or emotional health and safety of the Facilitator/Instructor or another participant before, during or after training will be cause for immediate expulsion.
