Event description

Description

KidActive http://www.kidactive.ca/ is excited to partner with the p.i.n.e project https://www.pineproject.org/ to offer a 2-day workshop focusing on Nature Connections for Early Years Educators.

In this workshop, educators will learn methods and practices to create inspiring, magical experiences in nature with young children ages 0-7yrs. Educators will further develop their own connection to nature, experience activities, discuss and learn more about the following teaching tools:

  • Mentoring techniques
  • Research based evidence on why outdoor play is essential for healthy child development
  • Promising practice, outdoor programming and design elements
  • Developing personal practices to cultivate connection to and knowledge of nature for educators

Practices includes storytelling, sit spots (how to get yourself and others to sit quietly in nature for periods of time), tracking wildlife and using questioning (inquiry) as a tool to facilitate curiosity, spark wonder, and build children's life long relationship with nature.

The workshop will take place outside on the grounds of the Galilee Centre in Arnprior.
Please come prepared to be outside for the day, rain, snow or shine.

For inquires and questions please contact Shawna Babcock at sbabcock@kidactive.ca or 613-633-7075

Andrew McMartin Executive Director of the p.i.n.e project will be the workshop lead facilitator

He is passionate about education, having spent the better part of the last 20+ years working with children in the outdoors. He’s a certified teacher in Ontario and has taught and traveled around the world as an outdoor educator and adventure guide. Andrew founded the p.i.n.e. project in 2008, and brings 20 years of teaching experience in the outdoors, and 15+ years of nature based mentoring and community building work with affiliate and parent organizations across North America.
