Event description

Description

Canada's competitive edge is no longer measured by its investments in infrastructure or high tech manufacturing. Not even by its natural resources. Canada's competitive edge depends on its creative ideas and the ability of individuals and team to generate those ideas. Poor literacy levels are at the heart of Canada's great productivity challenge and a barrier to our inclusive economic growth.

What does this mean for employers? Practically speaking, employees who do not have the skills they need are not performing as well as they could be. Literacy is not just the ability to read and write, but to do so well; to communicate effectively orally and in writing. To aptly navigate civic, health and financial written material so as to make informed decisions, plan ahead, and to educate children and younger generations to care for themselves.

In September 2015, the Public Policy Forum, in partnership with ABC Life Literacy Canada, launched a study to examine the barriers employers face to address issues of workplace literacy. The project included six roundtables held across Canada between March 2016 and April 2017.

The findings are now in. Please join us for a discussion about the themes of the final report.
