Bulging Bags of Stories
An NDH House of Dance presentation
A dance/theatre performance by Kathryn Ricketts
Kathryn Ricketts would like to share her latest dance/theatre inventions and experimentations with conglomerates of discarded objects.
Her obsession with Value Village ‘goodie bags’ as potent triggers for stories is exemplified in her robust improvisations that call complex narratives and vibrant characters into play.
This performance will be inspired from a collection of Value Village bags from both Regina and Edmonton as well as home made bags and delightful contributions from poets across Canada.
"These are stories that are triggered by seeing the objects. They can be from our own personal memories or mere associations," explains Ricketts. "We all have either in possession and or memory so many objects in our lives that are near and dear to us and have so many stories attached. I buy the bags that contain objects that seem to be attached to some of these stories."
Ricketts has been working for the past 35 years in the fields of movement, theatre and visual arts, presenting throughout Europe, South America, Africa and Canada. Her work in schools, galleries and community centres focus on social/political issues with movement, theatre, creative writing and visual arts as language.
This performance is part of New Dance Horizons' House of Dance series.
There will be a pop-up clothing sale as part of a NDH fundraising event immediately after the performance.
