Bystander Intervention & Social Justice in the Academic Workplace

For McMaster University Faculty Members

9:30 - 11:30 am

This session is geared toward faculty members and instructors who are interested in developing awareness and skills to engage more effectively in equity and inclusion related situations in the classroom, including witnessing biased comments and behaviours. Alan Berkowitz will present (1) an overview of the research and theory on bystander behaviour; (2) guidelines for using the Social Norms Model to encourage intervention; and, (3) what skills are needed to intervene in situations in a manner that is congruent with the values of equity and inclusion.
