Event Details

We had so many compliments about last year's Cabernet tasting in March, we decided to do it again, this time with superb Cabernets all from the iconic Coonawarra Region in South Australia.

Coonawarra is renowned as one of Australia’s finest wine regions and is particularly known for producing world class red wines especially Cabernet Sauvignon. Its secret lies in a magical marriage of rich red terra rossa soil, limestone, pure underground water and a long cool ripening season for the grapes.

Today, Coonawarra vineyard land is prized like a precious gem. The cigar-shaped strip of ‘terra rossa’ is finite, only 12km long and 2km wide, and is all but taken up by vineyards. Coonawarra is a cool climate wine region with an average elevation of 55m above sea level. The long growing season is marked by sunny, warm and dry days followed by cool evenings – an ideal combination developing the intense varietal characteristics for which Coonawarra is renowned. The region has an average rainfall of 640mm (30 year average) of which 221.6 mm falls during the growing season (October to April). Coonawarra has an average daily winter temperature of 9.8 degrees and an average daily summer temperature of 18.8 degrees.

We will taste eight great Coonawarra Cabernets from 2000 to 2005. There will be a reception wine at 6:30 followed by the tasting. Food will be served following the formal tasting. Here are the wines:

2000 Katnook Estate Odyssey

2001 Katnook Estate Riddoch

2002 Punter’s Corner Triple Crown

2003 Yalumba The Menzies

2004 Katnook Estate

2004 Nugan Estate Alcira Vineyard

2004 Yalumba The Menzies

2005 Wynn’s Estate

As this event is limited to 55 seats, book early.
