VENUE

Southminster United Church, on the bank of Ottawa’s Rideau Canal, hosts a thriving musical program that includes, in addition to UPBEAT’s programing, the DOMS weekly Wednesday noon-hour concert series, along with frequent appearances by noteworthy artists and ensembles from Ottawa and beyond. The church’s fine acoustics, 500-capacity seating, easy accessibility, and the presence of an excellent 9’ concert grand piano, make it a perfect venue for presenting live music to the community of Ottawa.

ROLAND GRAHAM

Pianist, harpsichordist, conductor, composer, and impresario, Roland Graham is the driving creative force behind Ottawa’s UPBEAT! PRODUCTIONS.

He has been heard as a pianist on CBC Radio 2, and performed with groups including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Ottawa Bach Choir, Caelis Academy Ensemble and Rideau Chorale, of which he is also Founding Artistic Director. His original composition for choir and organ, Canterbury Canticles, was premiered at Canterbury Cathedral in the UK in 2005.

As Director of Music at Southminster United Church, Roland leads a dynamic 12-voice chamber choir, and in 2013, founded the church’s popular Wednesday noon hour concert series, Doors Open for Music at Southminster (DOMS). Later that year, he founded the Master Piano Recital Series, and Concerts by the Canal in 2016. Both series are now administered and produced by UPBEAT! PRODUCTIONS.

A gifted teacher, communicator and promoter of music in the community, Roland studied classical piano with Marc Durand and Jimmy Brière at the Université de Montrèal, and Jean Desmarais at the University of Ottawa.
