Speakers - CALL November 2

November 2nd, 2017 - Arts Court downtown Ottawa

Dan Brunette - Ottawa Community Foundation
Understanding the Community Foundation
Dan will discuss how the Community Foundation can help your organization make connections, apply for grants and funding and much more.

Leslie Milton, Accountant - GGFL Chartered Accountants
Financial Literacy for Executive Directors and Board Members: What You Need to Know
Learn the ins and outs of financial statements, the liability concerns you face as a Director and what you can do to mitigate them, as well as the different types of engagements, and discover the benefits of an audit with Leslie Milton, Associate Partner, GGFL.

Adam Aptowitzer, Lawyer - Drache Aptowitzer LLP
How to Avoid an Audit and How to Deal With One When it Happens - A lawyer's perspective
Audits are conducted by a series of legal rules. Charities need to know the rules of the game by which they are being investigated - especially when the consequences of an audit could be revocation or reassessment of your donor’s tax receipts. Adam will explain those rules.

Sebastien Huard, Lawyer - Emond Harnden
Bill 148: Proposed Changes to Ontario's Labour and Employment Law. Are You Ready?
On June 1, 2017, the Ontario government introduced Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017, which, if passed, would result in sweeping changes to labour and employment laws in Ontario. While the proposed increase to the minimum wage has received the most attention in the media, there are numerous other proposed changes that will also have a significant impact on employers. Sebastien Huard will provide an overview of the proposed changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 and the Labour Relations Act, 1995 and discuss some of the potential significant implications for employers.
