Calligraphy Workshop | #Resolutions Workshop Month
Tue, 17 January 2017, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM EST
What’s it all about?
Let’s learn the basics of script lettering and calligraphy to create the perfect handmade art for the new year: beautifully scripted resolutions. You’ll cover essential techniques and gain helpful practice tips to develop your own unique look to your writing. This workshop is especially well suited for lovers of hand drawn letters and snail mail enthusiasts. Professional graphic designer and letterer Sam Dubeau will guide you through the process of developing a lettered project from start to finish in a collaborative learning environment. By the end, you’ll have created an impressive small hand drawn print to display in your own home and motivate you in the new year. You may even want to make some for your friends and family too!
What will we cover?
We’ll focus on the use of 2 essential tools for professional work: brush pen calligraphy and gel pen lettering. Working within a modern approach, you’ll learn the main characteristics of style development and we’ll cover and practice the common considerations: straight vs. italic; sharp vs. rounded; all caps vs. lowercase; and flourishing. We’ll also walk through the steps to creating a successful art layout for the final project: sketching thumbnails; combining style variations; and preparation, planning and execution for a clean looking finished piece.
