Event description

Description

Technovation challenges students to become a technology entrepreneur and develop a mobile app that solves a real problem in their local community. Teams of up to 5 girls work together to research, design, and build a mobile app prototype. Their ideas then get judged against teams from around the world.

No prior coding or app development experience is necessary for students or teachers and all materials needed are provided. At the end of the Technovation season, in April, the ihub will host a pitch event for students to share their apps and get feedback on their ideas from technology industry professionals.

During the next three years, we will face a shortage of 200,000 IT and computing jobs and yet, only 3% of Canadian students are studding computer science in their undergraduate programs, and 77% are male. Let's work to close the tech gender gap together.

Where: Educational Research & Innovation Hub (ihub), 130 Louth St., St. Catharines

When: Tuesday, December 5th 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM

Who: Any elementary or secondary teachers and students interested in coding and passionate about opportunities for girls.
