Event description

Description

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is a global event held annually the last day of August. In Cambridge, Ontario, we will be celebrating on August 20th from 4 pm to 6 pm. This event aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.

Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that the tragedy of overdose death is preventable. Always remember to call 911, as an overdose is a medical emergency.

Highlights of the Event:

  • Meet members of the local Bereaved Families of Ontario support group called Living with Loss: Adults grieving the loss of a loved one due to substance overdose/misuse

  • Decorate a stone and add it to the river rock journey wall to remember someone special

  • Receive Naloxone training and get a free kit

  • Talk to staff from different local organizations who will be on hand to provide support and information for individuals seeking help, including family members and concerned friends

  • Pizza and water provided free of charge!
