Description

SORRY! This class is full. To add your name to a waiting list for a repeat of this class, please email admin@lushvalley.org or call 250-218-4952.

Fermented beverages have been produced in long continuous traditions by people around the world. These tasty beverages are somewhat sweet, somewhat acidic, and have generally been regarded as healthful tonics. We will cover the basics of making kombucha and vinegars, and you will get to take home a kombucha SCOBY, a vinegar mother, and a ginger bug. Come prepared to taste some wild fermented vinegars and kombucha and start a ginger beer fermentation. A 100-year-old sourdough mother will also be offered, and we will make some sourdough crackers to snack on.

  • This workshop is for people aged 15 and up.
  • Space is limited to 12 participants, so please register early to avoid disappointment!
  • COST: $30 and bursaries are available to those in need. Please email admin@lushvalley.org to apply for the bursary.
  • Refunds are subject to a $5 admin fee. Tickets are transferrable.)
  • WHAT TO BRING: Please bring one 1-liter sized mason jar and 3 ½-liter sized mason jars with lids.
  • NOTE: A full meal will not be served at this workshop but there will be some healthy snacks available. Please eat dinner before you come.

About Our Facilitator, Jill Lamberts

Jill is an avid farmer, fermenter, food preserver, bread baker, beer maker, and charcuterie experimenter. She has recently transplanted herself from an Environmental Chemistry and Remediation career in Seattle, Washington to the Comox Valley to farm and work in food. She is a learner, having received degrees in Environmental Science, Biology, and the Culinary Arts. You can find her in the berry patch and garden at Shorewolf Farm in Black Creek and at the Sunday Merville Gumboot Farmers Market (and hopefully more soon!). She’s interested in being a part of the growing Comox Valley sustainable food networks and cherishes the importance of local, farm-fresh ingredients in healthy lives.
