Event description

Description

Starting almost immediately after his inauguration, U.S. President Donald Trump made headlines with cuts to research funding, the muzzling of government scientists, takeovers of science advisory committees, and the sidelining of science in public health and environmental decisions. The attacks have led to an unprecedented mobilization, with more scientists running for office, publicly communicating the impact of government investments in science, and organizing their peers to stand up for science.

Michael Halpern, deputy director of the Center for Science and Democracy at the Union of Concerned Scientists in Washington DC, will speak to the state of science in the US today, providing an update on the impact Trump has had on science in the US, the long-term opportunities that come with this kind of threat, and how scientists around the world can help support American scientists and scientific integrity.
