Event description

Description

Toronto based artist Cem Basarir is excited to display his special new series, dedicated to Canada’s 150th anniversary.
Artists focused on creating new pieces that reflect Canada’s history, culture and values. “The Immigrants” series meets with an audience for the first time in this event. The original images provided by the Canadian Museum of Immigration on Pier 21 and Chronicle Harold Collection. Cem re-created those images by using his very own painting style oil on canvas. The artworks show moments from the past but in a new contemporary approach employing Cem’s talented style. Cem created these pieces after long research and preparation.

” Selecting from thousands of images and bringing those images to life in 2017 was such a big challenge. I had to come up with the special colour blend that would take us to those days and give the true reflection of the early immigrant’s emotions thoughts, feelings. I believe that in my paintings I am connecting the present and the past. My paintings are classic in subject matter (street scenes, people, nature, etc.) but my way to bring all of this to life, to give everything a distinctive voice in my paintings, is contemporary and fresh.”
Cem Basarir

The purpose of the exhibition is to create an artistic & cultural vibration that reaches and connects Canadians all over the world. “The Immigrant” series was selected to display in London, UK Galleries to represent Canada in 2017.
