The Management Committee of the ICAP Canada Chapter is pleased to present an introductory course on Canadian personal income tax and the concept of integration. The details of the course are provided below:

Course Objective:

The course has been prepared with the goal of providing our members with basic and up to date information with respect to personal income tax return and the concept of integration.


11:00 am – 11:30 am - Registration and networking reception

11:30 am – 12:30 pm – Presentation

12:30 pm – 1:00 pm – Q&A

1:00 pm – 2:30 pm – Lunch and networking

For Non-GTA members, pilot run online participation facility is available, kindly refer the email received on 19 February 2018 to register.

Course Coverage:

1. Discuss fundamental concepts of Canadian income tax

i. Who is liable for Income Tax

ii. How tax residency is determined

iii. Who is required to file tax return and why you should file tax return

iv. Some administrative information (e.g. filing deadlines, amending a return, notice of assessment, etc.)

v. Components of taxable income i.e. income inclusions, deductions, tax rates, tax credits (e.g. RRSPs), etc.

2. An introduction to various types of entities and taxation (proprietor, partnership, trust and corporation) and the concept of integration.


1. Mohammad Nadeem - Mr. Nadeem curently works at KPMG LLP in their corporate taxation group and has managed diverse tax compliance engagements including complex tax returns (corporate, trusts and partnerships).

2. Mohammad Sharif Awan - Mr. Awan runs his own public accounting practice and has been practicing Canadian taxation for over 13 years. He has been involved in complex tax planning and structuring for a variety of clients.

CPD Credit:

1.5 hours. The Management Committee will send your attendance information to ICAP for CPD purposes. Please ensure that you enter your ICAP membership number when registering to ensure that your CPD record is updated.


The cost for the event is $15 per person if registered by February 17, 2018. Cost will increase to $20 per person if registered after February 17. In order to enable us to plan for the event, we would request members to register for the event by February 20. No fee will be charged to No-GTA members for participating online for the pilot run.
