Summary:

This workshop is designed to provide family law professionals with an overview of the intersections between family law and social assistance law, with the goal of ensuring that family law agreements and orders to not have unintended impacts on access to income supports.

The workshop will cover:

  • An overview of Ontario’s two social assistance programs: Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program
  • How social assistance eligibility rules apply in various custody arrangements, including children in care.
  • How social assistance treats receipt of child and spousal support
  • The role of Family Support Workers
  • The Canada Child Benefit eligibility rules, including the impact of child custody orders
  • The matrimonial home and social assistance
