Event description

Description

Without tugs, ships would not be able to enter, berth, or leave the Port of Vancouver safely. They are the workhorses that assist ocean-going vessels to maneuver and steer safely. Seaspan and its fleet of modern tugs have been assisting commerce on the West Coast of British Columbia for more than a century.

Join us for this free presentation to hear firsthand:

- the role of escort tugs and how they ensure the safety and efficiency of shipping activity

- the power and performance of modern tugs

- stories and anecdotes from a tug captain.

Choose one of two presentations:

4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Guest Speakers:

Lorri Stewart, Manager, Ship Assist and Harbour Operations, Seaspan

Captain Tony Poole, Seaspan

"Quite simply, and without exaggeration, without tugboats the business of the world would completely grind to a halt." -- Robert Allan, naval architect, Vancouver, B.C. in a July 2018 speech acknowledging the importance of tugs to the B.C. economy
