About this Event

Join the S2BN for an evening featuring Canadian cannabis industry experts as Canada sets on phase 2 of legalizing the use of cannabis in edibles, oils, and beverages. During this panel discussion we’ll discuss the growing medicinal and recreational cannabis industry in Canada, how the industry can attract top scientific talent and build R&D capacity, and the strategies being employed to gain therapeutic legitimacy while capitalizing potential opportunities in the natural health, edibles, and overall recreational market.

He is the guiding force behind Mera’s long-term strategy and has been integral in establishing both strategic international partnerships across complementary industries while simultaneously building a strong professional team domestically.

Kevin Canning, PhD, MBA

Vice-President, Science Strategy, Portfolio & Operation

15+ years in healthcare leadership roles with GlaxoSmithKline Canada & China. Mr. Canning’s experience includes basic research and genetics, research alliances/scouting for global R&D pipeline, venture capital, clinical research, epidemiology, medical affairs, project management and outsourcing. Mr. Canning holds a Ph.D. and an H.B.Sc. in Physiology, both from Western University. Furthermore, holds an M.B.A. from the Ivey Business School, Western University and was recognized as an Ivey Scholar.

David M. Kideckel, PhD, MBA

Managing Director, Healthcare & Life Sciences Analyst

Dr. David M. Kideckel is an Analyst & Managing Director at AltaCorp Capital, Inc. He is covering Healthcare and Life Sciences. Prior to joining AltaCorp Capital, Dr. Kideckel was at another leading independent investment dealer, in his role as Director of Healthcare & Biotechnology, Institutional Equity Research. He is a seasoned industry executive, having spent over 10 years in international pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies where he held executive roles in sales, marketing, medical affairs and international business development. He is a recipient of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Science to Business Award. Dr. Kideckel holds a PhD and MBA from the University of Toronto's Institute of Medical Science and Rotman School of Management, respectively. He is a university Gold Medalist.

Karolina Urban

Director, Medical Programs

Avicanna Inc.

Karolina brings her experience from private equity including marketing and equities research, investment selection, and portfolio management. With a primary focus in the cannabis space, Karolina holds a strong understanding of the medical and recreational markets and regulatory environment. Karolina holds a MSc in Neurosciences and is currently finishing her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Toronto.
