Event Details

The 2nd Annual Cape Breton Highlands 3 Peaks Challenge will take place on July 16th, 2011. Fifteen (15) teams will have the opportunity to participate in a one of kind event. Pattern a bit after the UK 3 Peaks Challenge, this team event involves hiking all 3 peaks in one day, averaging between 2-3 hours (based on 2010)  for each peak plus driving from Ingonish to Cheticamp. This event is hosted and organized by the Hike the Highlands Festival Society with assistance from Cape Breton Highlands National Park & Les Amis du Plein Air.

The CB Highlands 3 Peaks event involves 4 people on a team including their captain. The captain is responsible for organizing the team, the safety and making sure all their teammates complete the challenge. This is a participation event that begins at 7:00 am on July 16th on Franey, Ingonish Centre and completed by 7:00 pm. at Cheticamp.  All ten teams completed this event in 2010 and under time.

Teams should be expected to stay in the Ingonish area the night before - July 15 because of the early start 7:00 am, and  in Cheticamp on July 16th after hiking 3 Peaks in one day. Hikers should be expected to bring & have lunch on top of Roberts Mtn., the 2nd Peak, in Pleasant Bay and supper or snack on Acadien. July can be a hot momth and to assist teams in planning, hikers should have 2 water bottles with them for each peak.  Teams will check in at the Nature Bookstore after completing the final peak Acadien,  and later to  participate in the closing ceremonies & reception from 5:45 pm. - 7:00 pm. at the main theatre at Cheticamp Visitor Centre ( Parks Canada).

The registration fee is $100 per team and includes a t-shirt, closing ceremonies & reception....as well some special souvenirs from Cape Breton Highlands National Park on their 75th anniversary.
