Monday, 29 April 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM (PDT)
North Vancouver, British Columbia
On April 29th Capilano Univerisity will be hosting their first ever Changemaker Challenge, and we want you there! This event has been created by students and faculty members of various departments and the CSU, which highlights social innovation happening at CapU. There currently are several student-led initiatives taking place in various programs within the university. These projects range from solutions for environmental issues, social justice issues, campus artwork, community building and more.
The Changemaker Challenge provides students with the opportunity to pitch their projects to judges and mentors, who have also provided us with their support during the planning process. After proposing their ideas judges will award projects with seed funding in order to implement them into the university. These judges include Charles Tsai from Ashoka Canada, Carolyn Stern an Instructor from Capilano's School of Business, and Sherwin Catindig who also works on the Social Innovation Challenge at SFU.
The second half of the event is called the Changemaker Showcase, part of a national series curated by Ashoka Canada. During this showcase we will have keynote speakers from the community who will speak to their own social innovations. These speakers include Jordan Bober, co-found of SeedStock Community Currency, which launched at Granville Island last year.
The presentations will be followed by a networking and drinksevent where students, faculty members, and community partners can connect, converse, and hopefully collaborate.
This event is both free and open to the entire public, any one who considers themselves an agent of change or inspiring changemaker is strongly encouraged to attend. And please, feel free to forward the invite on to your networks!
The Changemaker Challenge begins at 4PM with idea proposals in the NSCU Performing Arts Theatre at Capilano University followed by:
5:30 PM: Networking and Drinks
6:PM: Changemaker Showcase and seed funding announcement
7:30 PM: Community Networking and Drinks
We acknowledge and Thank our gracious Sponsors for making this event possible!
