CAPS Ottawa Fall Summit
Reboot! Don't Wait To Feel The Water Boiling
Success Strategies For Training, Speaking &
Business in the Age of Disruption
Saturday, October 22, 2016 - 8:30am to 4pm
La Charette - 460 West Hunt Club Road
Disruption is hitting every corner of our economy. Not convinced? Well, take a look at the upstarts challenging traditional industries. Uber probably comes to mind. So does Air BNB. What about the sharp drop in newspaper advertising and subscriber numbers? Or the shrinking viewer base for network TV? All of these developments are screaming “Wake up!” to every one of us, regardless of our line of work. It’s time to sharpen our skills to be more effective, more productive, more responsive to new opportunities, more focused on the metrics that matter, and above all else, more in tune with what our customers and clients want and need.
It’s time to Reboot!
The CAPS Ottawa Fall Summit is packed with a half-day workshop, two interactive presentations and a hold on to your socks-paced panel discussion.
You’ll leave the Summit with a ton of content designed to help you reboot and stay ahead of the forces of disruption that are turning things on their head in the way we train, communicate, work and even define success.
Here’s a taste of what you’ll experience on Saturday, October 22.
A lot rides on design - First up will be Janet Stewart a specialist in face-to-face and on-line training and author of an on-line university called http://www.AllianceLearning.ca. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and put theory into action as Janet takes us through a training workflow that emphasizes audience interaction. It’s called “experiential design” and no one knows how to put it into practice better than Janet. She’ll also share the four steps of the training cycle as well as how to identify your students’ preferred learning style and how to avoid design traps. Bring your own topic to work on, or join with a group of peers to tackle a sample problem. You’ll also take away a handout from this workshop to help you easily replicate what you learn.
Because it’s 2016! - In the afternoon, we’ll switch gears from cutting-edge training to communication techniques that riff off Canadians’ collective love affair with social media. Social media has changed the way people communicate and raised new expectations. Many of the old tried and true methods don’t cut it anymore with savvy audiences. So, what does that mean to the way you present ideas to your clients, customers or co-workers? Communications specialist Wendy Cherwinski will share answers during her session Communicate With Confidence: New Rules to Connect, Enlist Buy-in & Get Action. You’ll come away from this session with practical, interactive tactics for engaging people and influencing them to accept your viewpoint or take the action you propose.
Accounting 101 ABSOLUTELY NOT! - To gauge business success, you first have to define success. And different people define success…well…differently. So, it’s no wonder that different people also come up with different numbers. In What’s Your Magic Number: Measure What Matters Most and Take Your Business to the Next Level, Carol Ring, an author, entrepreneur and former business executive, will help you find your magic number. During this fast-paced, fun session, you’ll pick a strategy, perform a reality check on your assumptions, and discover how to integrate your business model and magic number. At the end of Carol’s session, you’ll take away a bonus template that you can use to find and track your number. Don’t miss out on this giveaway, because it could be the key to your future success.
Get ready for an adrenalin rush —Be prepared to record or write very, very fast when the CAPS Ottawa lightning panel swings into action. As the clock ticks down, each of the participating “CAPS experts who speak” will deliver ideas in rapid-fire succession. You’ll be guaranteed 25 ideas in 25 minutes, and a few laughs too, as the panelists share practical ways to keep a giant leap ahead of the forces of disruption.
Sold to the lucky winner!!! - Bid on professional products and services donated by our member experts who speak. The CAPS Ottawa Silent Auction will run throughout the day.
