Folk

Winnipeg, MB

Casati began as The Grace Hrabi trio, arranging jazz standards and dabbling in song writing on their release Afraid of Heights(2014). As the band made collaborating on original music their focus, Casati found its voice as a unique blend of the music that inspires them: the heartbreak of a country ballad, the vocal harmonies of 1950s and 60s pop, and the instrumental virtuosity of jazz and classical music, creating a sound that is familiar yet original.

Like three hearts beating in perfect time, the music of Casati is a living thing, constantly changing, evolving and reinventing itself. Grace Hrabi, Jesse Popeski & Quintin Bart search for stories waiting to be told and collaborate in bringing them to life. Songs about love found or lost, cautionary tales of time slipping away or even a whimsical tune about bicycle rides. Audiences have come to expect complete honesty from Casati and the trio unwaveringly delivers in their lyrics and banter. The band tells stories to set the tone of the songs, engaging the audience before a single note has been played. Casati’s songs cover a range of emotions, from realizations that took years to put into words to moments of pure happiness and humour, painting a complete picture of life. Their music strikes a balance between sincere and direct words supported by musical inventiveness. Casati brings their music to life with lush three part harmonies and rich textures created with ukulele, guitar, double bass sometimes a hurdy-gurdy.

Because of their acoustic instrumentation and the storytelling quality of their song writing, they are best characterized as a folk trio with an open mind. Casati focuses on making every piece a collaboration between all three artists / songwriters; with the common goal of finding optimism in every subject they explore, believing that a good song can lift you up and leave you with hope.

Casati's debut album, There Will Be Days (2017) spent 23 weeks on the Earshot! Charts and demonstrates the group’s range as both songwriters and musicians while organically capturing the band’s acoustic sound. In the two years following the release, they performed at many of Manitoba’s best summer festivals, toured across Canada, released artistic music videos for their songs The Void and Train (featuring animation and visuals by the band) and participated in the Manitoba Showcase, resulting in a six concert tour of the province in spring 2019. Casati’s sophomore release will be available fall 2019.
