Event description

Description

The objective of this CASID Certificate is to provide participants with an overview of the humanitarian enterprise, the policy framework, the major players, the operational challenges, and Canada's performance. Humanitarian assistance has grown 700% since 2000; what is driving the growth and how is this assistance changing?

The seminar will begin with a 45 minute presentation on the main issues, policy frameworks, current (2017) situation regarding natural disasters and conflict-related emergencies, then divide into two groups and work on a humanitarian response scenario for 45 minutes, followed by reporting back to the plenary in a 30 minute discussion, closing with a 20 minute wrap-up.

This event will be facilitated by Hunter McGill. Hunter McGill is an international development policy consultant, and Senior Fellow at the School of International Development and Global Studies at the University of Ottawa. His consulting practice focuses on good bilateral donor practice, aid effectiveness, and humanitarian assistance. He spent 30 years at the Canadian International Development Agency, and worked at the OECD for five years as head of peer review and evaluation operations for the Development Assistance Committee (DAC).

This event is geared to university students and recent graduates.
