CAV Canada is excited to announce the dates for our 2020 digital event series.

About this Event

  • Anchored in the nation’s capital and one of the world’s top tech hubs, the 2020 CAV Canada digital event series is the 'must attend' event for any innovator, organization or community driving the safe development, commercialization and deployment of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). Hosted by Area X.O operated by Invest Ottawa and Kanata North Business Association in partnership with CAVCOE, our 2020 digital event series will bring together stakeholders from across Canada’s thriving CAV ecosystem and around the world to propel Canada’s global leadership in, and contribution to, this dynamic sector. 

With digestible events being organized for three consecutive Wednesdays in November and December, topics will include CAV R&D and testing, the impact of CAV’s on the general public and Cybersecurity. While planning is underway for the CAV Canada 2020 digital event series, you can register for each event now to get it these booked into your calendar:

On December 2, 2020, the 2020 CAV Canada Digital Event Series will stimulate timely discussion on CAV innovation and investment. Jamie Petten, Kanata North Business Association President & Executive Director, will join us as MC for the second day of our virtual conference.

We are honoured to welcome national and global innovation leaders to our opening keynote panel, Driving the Future of CAV Innovation. Don't miss this rare opportunity to gain inspiration and actionable insight on CAV and smart mobility innovation, opportunities and challenges in a rapidly changing world.

This discussion will bring together national and global innovation leaders from industry, academia, policy and the non-profit sector including:

  • Michelle Avary, Head of Automotive and Autonomous Mobility, World Economic Forum
  • Dr. Raquel Urtasun, Chief Scientist of Uber ATG, Head of Uber ATG R&D, Head of Uber ATG Toronto, Professor at University of Toronto

This dynamic panel will explore:

  • Key objectives, strategies and priorities currently being addressed by these innovation leaders, and how they define and measure success
  • Fundamental changes and challenges these leaders are navigating in CAV and related technology innovation and adoption in the current COVID-19 landscape, and predictions for the post-pandemic world
  • The role and importance of innovation leadership in this sector during challenging times, and key learnings emerging from the past year
  • The value and impact of multidisciplinary collaboration in CAV innovation, business and policy development, and how it will create a more connected world
  • Strategic action required to engage more womxn innovation leaders from every walk of life in CAV and related technology development and adoption, and the associated impact on research, business and policy innovation

The session will conclude with a moderated Q&A.


For Session 2, the great content will continue with a moderated Fireside Chat featuring BlackBerry QNX and Canadian and Ottawa-based Startups discussing participation in the L-Spark Corporate CAV Innovation Program. Founded in partnership with BlackBerry QNX, the Blackberry/L-SPARK Accelerator works with startups who are developing next-generation applications focused on vehicle connected services and cloud connectivity to the vehicle. Together these organizations will accelerate the future, with game changing entrepreneurs and technology solutions that leverage and extend the BlackBerry/QNX embedded OS.

On December 9, 2020 the digital event series for CAV Canada 2020 will present a session on the impact of CAVs on the General Public.

For the opening session, registrants will be asked to step back in time as it is 1908 all over again. Instead of the Model T Ford, we are witnessing the launch of CAVs which will change things in the 21st Century as much as the Model T and other early cars changed the 20th Century. In a panel on how CAV’s are changing people’s lives including labour, logistics and banking, participants will include:

Session 2: How CAVs will transform our communities - imagining the way we will live, work, play and learn in the cities of the future

The Jetsons era may be closer than we think and as research and innovations related to smart cities rapidly evolve, our communities are bracing for a transformational shift in how these future technologies will integrate into our daily lives. What will the communities of the future look like in the next 5,10, 20 years? Join us as we discuss with a diverse panel of industry leaders, led by CBC Tech News Journalist, Manjula Selvarajah.
