Meet up topic: Connecting Syrian Youth to Calgary communities
WHEN: Thursday, April 27, 2017, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
WHO: Everyone welcomed. Please make a special effort to invite your Syrian contacts
This meet up is a follow up to a discussion we had in December 2015 where we talked about the role of inclusion, compassion and diversity to community building in Calgary with a focus on the Syrian Refugees.
In planning for the meet up we spoke to community partners Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) and Syrian Refugee Support Group Calgary. We discovered that it is now important to focus on how we can support Syrian youth to feel more connected in Calgary. Specificaly, the current need among Syrian youth is more ‘hands-on’ support; they need accompanying and encouragement to integrate or connect with other youth and other Calgarians.
So at the April 27 meet up we will discuss supporting Syrian youth and families to be more connected in Calgary through examining successful community experiences and stories.
- How do we encourage and support the potential of Syrian youth in our communities?
- What is the role of the wider community and individuals to ensure more integrated and welcoming neighbourhoods?
All these are questions and more we will explore at our next meet up. So come and be part of the conversation. We look forward to your participation.
