Description

Meet Up topic: Finding solutions to Social Isolation in our Communities

Recent studies have highlighted Social Isolation (i.e. loneliness) in communities to be a major public health concern - see research by Holt-Lunstad, Aug 2017, Brigham Young University.

At the meet up on Apr 24, we will attempt to better understand why Social Isolation (or loneliness) happens in our communities & neighbourhoods and explore solutions for making Calgary neighbourhoods more connected, welcoming and inclusive to all residents.

While attempting to understand the root causes and effects of Social Isolation we hope to focus more on solutions we can all take part in. Here are some questions we will be discussing:

  • How common or prevalent is Social Isolation (or loneliness) in our communities?... what are the indicators or signs of Social Isolation or loneliness?

  • Could we design neighbourhoods better, facilitate opportunities or organize differently for greater social connectivity and inclusion for all?

  • How could we make better use of current community spaces and resources?

  • What role should individual residents, community groups and agencies play in tackling this issue?

Come and be part of the conversation. We look forward to having you.

Please RSVP by April 23, 2018, or phone Abbas Mancey, Project Lead, 403-919-3072.

Cheers,
