About this event
Join Senator Rosa Galvez, independent senator for Quebec, on a discussion about Latin American Heritage month and the role Latin American immigrants play in Canada. Senator will briefly discuss her career in engineering and journey as an immigrant in academia and her eventual journey into Canadian politics. Following Senator Galvez's talk, a panel discussion will occur with members of the Latin American community. Latin American community including:

- Nancy Ramirez, President, Asociación Fraternidad Hispana (AFH) de Hamilton
- Salomé Rodriguez Solarte , Co-President, Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS) of McMaster
This panel will be moderated by Dr. Andrés Felipe Fajardo, Pediatric Resident Doctor at McMaster University.
This event will be opened by Dr. Arig al Shaibah, Associate Vice-President (Equity and Inclusion), McMaster University, and by Sofia Palma Florido, Co-President, Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS) of McMaster.

Rosa Galvez, originally from Peru, is one of Canada's leading experts in pollution control and its effect on human health. She has a Ph.D in Environmental Engineering from McGill University and has been a professor at Université Laval à Québec since 1994, heading the Civil and Water Engineering Department from 2010 to 2016. She specializes in water and soil contamination, waste management and residues, and environmental impact and risk assessment. Senator Galvez was appointed to the Senate on December 6, 2016 representing Québec (Bedford).
