Event description

Description

Join us as we recognize those who make Kingston more accessible for everyone! This year we welcome Meenu Sikand from the Rick Hansen Foundation as our guest speaker.

Meenu Sikand will speak about how she faced a life-changing spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed and how she has become a successful disability rights advocate in Canada and internationally. Meenu has travelled extensively throughout Canada and overseas, receiving numerous awards from the Canadian government, Indo-Canada Chambers of Commerce, Voice Media Group and NGOs. As an ambassador of the Rick Hanson Foundation Meenu shares her personal story to start a meaningful dialogue about our shared responsibility to make society more accessible and inclusive, and inspire action towards removing barriers in their own communities.

The Celebrating Accessibility Awards recognizes a person, group or organization that has made or is making a significant contribution beyond legislated requirements, towards improving access for persons with disabilities in Kingston.Award categories include: education, employment, recreation, customer service, built environment, volunteer, youth and other.
