Event description

Description

Toronto based fashion events startup Archival Toronto is bringing another exciting piece of fashion cinema to the city.

After 12 years, Celebration by Olivier Meyrou will finally be making its Canadian premiere.

ABOUT CELEBRATION by Olivier Meyrou

Banned by Yves Saint Laurent’s business partner Pierre Bergé from release after its initial screening in 2007, this documentary gives a rare backstage glimpse at YSL and his couturier, following them from sketching and developing the house’s final collection, leading up to his retirement in 2002.

The depiction of an aging, ailing Saint Laurent moments before his departure from the fashion house is said to have incensed Pierre Bergé, Saint Laurent’s life and business partner, who blocked the release of the film. It wasn’t until the end of 2015, seven years after Saint Laurent’s death in 2008, Bergé finally approved the documentary’s official release.

After intense restoration work the film made its release debut on November 2018.

Archival Toronto is now moving towards organizing culturally significant events that can empower a greater sense of appreciation for fashion history in the hopes of building an empowered creative community, linked by mutual interest and is always hungry to learn and create.
