Description

Chalk Talk at Work Place
September 12th 2017
6.00pm - 7.30pm

*Please note, this event is for students and recent graduates.*

Freelancer, solopreneur, digital nomad, remote worker... these are just a few of the ways to describe people who are self-employed, AKA, people who don't follow the 9-5 grind. In 2016 there were 1.9 million Canadians who were self-employed and that figure continues to grow! This event is for students and graduates who are ready to take the leap to freelancing. Chalk Talk at Work Place will give you an insight into the world of freelancing through a casual seminar and Q&A.

Networking as a Creative
Hear some tips and advice from Work Place Co-founder Sean Scott on how to effectively network as a creative freelancer. How do you get your name and your brand to stand out? Where and how do you begin to build a network of collaborators and clients? Do you have your 'elevator pitch' sorted?

Sean Scott / Co-founder & Communications Manager at Work Place
Sean has lead a variety of projects alongside the digital technology and creative industries and has a passion for connecting people through unique event experiences. He has managed events across the globe from exhibitions to conferences, award ceremonies, networking events, workshops, festivals and VIP parties.

Freelancing Hacks
So, starting out is tough! Work Place member and freelance Illustrator, Graphic and Web Designer Stephanie McDonell will share tips and tricks on how she manages a freelance lifestyle in Vancouver.

Stephanie McDonell / Freelance Illustrator, Graphic and Web Designer, Stephanie works on everything from retail branding projects to mural commissions. She is also part-time Maker and Imaging Specialist for Make Vancouver.

Work Place is a creative events and coworking space where individuals and groups without a traditional office can work, collaborate, network and socialize. Featuring a mezzanine filled with desks for quiet focus and long-table seating that facilitates interaction and networking, there is plenty of space to be productive. By day, the open-concept space is home to solo coworkers and group collaborators. On the weekends and evenings Work Place transforms into a social space for exhibitions, readings, talks, launches, workshops, pop-up shops and more.
