Show Description

You’ve invited to play a game. It’s a game of merit. Over an evening you will help determine the next champion through a strategic game of voting and competition. Guests will be divided into teams as the night progresses, but only one individual will emerge the winner. How you self-identify may help you gain or lose points. Once we are liberated, will meritocracy rule?

Champion is a fast-paced and interactive piece of theatre, which involves large-scale games. The performance will feature projections, loud noise, bright lights and an energetic atmosphere. We want you to be comfortable when you arrive, prepared for the performance, so please keep the following in mind:

The game takes place without chairs, alternative seating will be available to those who request it. We are unable to admit latecomers and if you need to leave the auditorium, unfortunately re-admittance will not be possible. The performance game will last roughly one hour. Latecomers will not be admitted. If you need to leave the performance space, you will not be re-entered.

Biography

Brian Postalian (Բրայն Փոսթալյան) is an interdisciplinary performance creator, theatre director, and producer born and raised in Toronto by way of Armenia, Ireland, Wales, and the Czech Republic. He frequents used book stores, rides bicycles, takes photos and is learning how to draw and play the duduk. Brian is the founding Artistic Director of Re:Current Theatre.

His work has been featured on “Best of the Year” lists, received Outstanding Direction (NOW Magazine), Best Production (SummerWorks 2017), nomination for Outstanding Direction (MyEntertainmentWorld), and he has been described as “clearly unafraid to try just about anything”. He creates whimsical and visually imaginative work based in personal history and trauma, always asking about how we connect to each other in a shared space. www.brianpostalian.com
