Progressive Business and Politics through Art: Lawrence Paul Luxweluptun at SKWACHÀYS Lodge
Vancouver artist Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, of Coast Salish and Okanagan descent is best known for his provocative works that confront the colonialist suppression of First Nations peoples and the ongoing struggle for Indigenous rights to lands, resources, and sovereignty. #RenameBC is his most recent social media brainchild.
Influential as both artist and activist, Luxweluptun expresses his ideas through hard-hitting, polemical, but also playful artworks that span his remarkable 30- year career.
Through his works he fuels dialogue, indignation, and even spiritual awareness as he tackles land rights, environmental destruction, and changing ideas about what we can expect of Indigenous art from the Northwest Coast. The issues Yuxweluptun addresses are impossible to ignore.
Luxweluptun most recently showcased his works at his MOA: exhibition: Unceded Territories.
This event takes place at the beauiful SKWACHÀYS LODGE Aboriginal Hotel & Gallery, a boutique hotel that offers a unique Aboriginal Experience. Six of Vancouver’s top hotel designers partnered with a half dozen Aboriginal artists to create 18 unique art installations- one for each room.
