Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Are the bylaws at your townhouse or condo complex keeping up with modern problems? Stratas dealing with unwanted Air BnB short-term rentals and marijuana smokers are no longer just in the news. If these issues are effecting your strata, this seminar is a must.

Guest speaker Shawn M. Smith of Cleveland Doan Law in White Rock will speak about the new issues that stratas face, which were not contemplated in the Standard Bylaws. The standard "nuisance" or usage bylaws may not be adequate. Shawn will talk about suggested bylaws to help your strata deal with:

  • Air BnB / short-term rentals
  • Pot smoking
  • Electric vehicle charging
  • Non-traditional home based businesses

There are a host of other bylaws you may need to amend, depending on your location. Is your strata short on secure bicycle parking? Do you have car-share parking?

Shawn will provide some suggested wording as a starting point, which must be vetted by your strata's lawyer to meet your unique circumstances. He will also discuss bylaw enforcement, and the recent CRT Decisions which reinforce the strata council's responsibilites. Register early for what will be an information-packed afternoon.

FREE for VISOA Members, $20 for Non-Members, when registering before November 15th.

Tickets may be available at the door: $10 for VISOA Members, $30 for Non-Members.
