Chilliwack Healthier Community Information and Networking Breakfast

Supporting Each Other in Mental Wellness

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

It can be scary when someone you love is sick. It can be especially scary if they’re struggling with mental illness - mild, moderate or severe, diagnosed or not. It’s hard to see someone you love in pain and it’s confusing when someone you know well is not acting like themselves. You know how you would take care of them if they had a cold or flu, but what do you do for a mental illness? Like any other health problem, someone with a mental illness needs extra love and support. You may not be able to see the illness, but it doesn’t mean that you’re powerless to help.

Our presentations for next week's Information and Networking Breakfast are all about learning what programs and supports there are for families and friends to support each other in mental wellness.

Presentations:

Lise McAlpine, Chilliwack Mental Health, Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment Team & Group Therapy Services, Fraser Health
Mental Health in the Workplace

Monica Parker, Clinical Counsellor, Family Support Services Program, Chilliwack Mental Health
Family Support Services Program

Catherine Larnon-Trout, Fraser East Regional Educator, British Columbia Schizophrenia Society
Strengthening Families Together

The CHC Mental Health Guide Development Committee
The Elements of Mental Wellness

Mike Ayers, Clinical Director, Ann Davis Transition Society
What the research shows – The Effects of Technology on our Mental Wellness

Doors are open for registration, breakfast and informal networking at 8:30am, with the program beginning a few minutes earlier than usual (just before 9am), to accommodate speakers that need to get back to their programming. We should wrap up around 10:30am, but please feel free to stay after the presentations and continue networking.

Don't forget to bring your materials for the Information Exchange Table, and have your Agency Announcements ready.

Please send the link to this invitation to your networks. The CHC network grows almost every day, but there is always room for more!

See you all there!
