Cheesey FUN-damentals 'Class'
Spend a day learning about artisan cheeses with a Cheese Sommelier
Come in from the cold to nibble & nosh all day and learn about fabulous fromages. Our Savvy Cheese Sommelier Vanessa Simmons, will introduce you to new cheeses from around the world, share stories about cheesemakers & show you the ‘whey’ as you learn cheesey FUN-damentals including:
- Different types of milk, traits & terroir
- The real meaning of artisan cheese
- Cheesey lingo & how to describe cheese with flair
- Cheesemaking steps & ingredients
- The difference between Local & ‘International Classics’
- The How-To’s of creating a delicious cheese board
- Cheese TLC – buying & caring for cheese
At the end of the afternoon, the class will have The Ultimate Taste Test: Which is really better? ‘Wine & Cheese’ or ‘Craft Beer & Cheese’
Enjoy a gourmet lunch prepared by renowned Ottawa chef & owner Josh Gillard at MUST Kitchen & Wine Bar.
After this Cheesey FUN-damental 'Class', you will leave with a full stomach, some surprise treats & tasty homework to continue your cheese-y adventure!
More about your Cheese-y ‘Teacher’
Vanessa’s passion for cheese oozes over! She has trained with the Cheese Education Guild in Toronto – Canada’s only comprehensive cheese appreciation program. This past summer, she was a judge for the Sélections Caseus - Québec Fine Cheese Competition & has been a headline speaker at The Great Canadian Cheese Festival for the past 3 years. CBC Radio frequently calls on Vanessa to fill the airwaves with cheese-y stories & she also shares her tips in her Curd on the Street blog.
