Description

Eventually everyone will be challenged by a significant loss or change in their lives. For children, in particular, this can be devastating and effect their learning, relationships. self-esteem and so much more. Often, unresolved (complicated grief) can emerge much later, (as a teenager or adult) resulting in many different mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, poor mood regulation or impaired relationship skills.

This presentation will provide understanding of the impacts that grief, loss and change can have at different developmental stages. As well participants will learn what is normal grief and what the signs of complicated grief are. Participants will learn about various proven practical activities/tools/strategies which can be utilized at various stages of the grieving process.

Participants will learn to:

  1. Understand the unique impacts grief and loss can have at different developmental stages.
  2. Identify the various symptoms which can be experienced by children and youth
  3. Identify signs for complicated grief.
  4. Understand what the stages are that children and youth move through to achieve a healthy grief process
  5. Utilize specific tools and activities to assess grief and loss at different developmental stages.
  6. Utilize specific tools and activities to support children/youth in the healing process at different developmental stages.
  7. Adapt interventions to work with individuals, groups, or families.
