"Reggio" Chinese Curriculum

The innovative Cantonese curriculum, which focuses on recognizing Chinese characters, reading, speaking, writing, singing and listening, will be launched this September. Inspired by the Reggio Approach, it is designed for children who plan on learning Chinese as a second or a foreign language. From a motivational perspective, students will learn Cantonese in a happy way and immerse in our Chinese culture.

About Reggio

Ms. Chan sees teaching as a creative profession. In her twelve years of living in Italy, she actively participated in different educational conferences for her professional development. Among them, the international conference “The hundred languages in dialogue with the natural environment” organized by the "Reggio Children" in 2011 had a significant impact on her instructional vision. According to Loris Malaguzzi, children are born artists and have a hundred ways of learning like singing, speaking, dancing, drawing, writing, role-playing…… Ms. Chan tends to incorporate such power of imagination to activate students’ interest in the Chinese language. By exploring the interesting facts of Chinese pictographs and the Oracle bone script, children would feel motivated to learn and apply Chinese into their Canadian lives.

About Ms. Chan

Sann, F. S. Chan worked as an editor for the Oriental Press Group, as a contributing writer for the City Magazine and other magazines for over thirteen years. Having a strong knowledge base in the Chinese language, she embraces her vision of educating young children. In both Hong Kong and Canada, she has spent her career in education for many years. Her teaching experiences have extended from vocational training for adults to teaching children Cantonese at school. Being a former school principal and a passionate teacher at the Mon Sheong Foundation Chinese School, she has a sophisticated experience in designing school curriculums and specializes in classroom management.
