About this event
Explore your creativity using a mix of foliage from Darts Hill Garden Park to create your own unique Christmas wreath with Sharon Lawson. The workshop includes some foliage from the garden with festive refreshments. Participants must bring secateurs or sharp scissors and a pair of gloves. Bring your own wreath making supplies or purchase from the workshop.
Equipment each participant should bring:
- secateurs, small wire cutters, small measuring ruler to make consistent bunches of three – five cuts
- gardening gloves
Supplies each participant should bring (or will be provided if you purchase a wreath making kit):
- 12 inch grapevine or wire wreath form
- 6 or so newspaper pages to bulk up the wire rim
- a green garbage bag of cut greens, (and cones)
- a paddle of green floral wire, max 22 gauge
We will have a selection of cut branches available from Darts Hill Garden, some with berries and cones. If you have some specific foliage in mind, it is best to bring it for our supply and collection is limited. It is surprising how much material is needed to tie around a 12 inch wreath form, and much, much more is used around a larger form. Variegated evergreen plant material, such as variegated Daphne, Osmanthus and holly is good for wreath making. Avoid cotoneaster as the red berries drop quickly and stain surfaces
Location
The workshop will take place outside of the Maple Activity Center, north of the Propagation area, please enter the volunteer parking lot located at 1680- 168th Avenue.
Vaccination Requirement
Our organization adheres to all provincial health order, to protect our staff and attendant, double vaccination proof is required for all workshop attendant. Upon entry, a staff member will request a copy of your BC Vaccine Card (either digital or paper copy) and one piece of government-issued photo ID.

About the organizer
We are a dedicated group interested in preserving Darts Hill Garden Park as a Plantsman’s Garden. Inspired by the spirit and vision of Francisca Darts–who with her husband Edwin–so graciously donated the property to the City of Surrey, the Society seeks to continue the development of the Garden and to extend opportunities to the public to enjoy the Garden as well as to make their own special contributions.
The City of Surrey worked directly with Francisca Darts in the development of a purpose, vision and overall guiding principles for the Garden. This ensures that in the future the garden will continue to be managed in accordance with her wishes.
The City and the Society are excited about the future of Darts Hill Garden Park. The garden will be a place of horticultural learning, where enthusiastic amateur gardeners will rub shoulders with professional horticulturists to view some of the finest and most mature horticultural specimens in the Pacific Northwest.
