CIM GTA West Monthly Networking Luncheon - Wednesday April 26th, 2017
Wed, 26 April 2017, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM EDT
Join us for lunch, networking and presentation by Kevin Larmondin of Hatch sharing on the award winning Gahcho Kue project. The site's remote, northern location meant that the Gahcho Kue team faced extreme weather conditions for more than 6 months each year. Completion of the project largely depended on the success of several ice road campaigns, including the big push in the winter of 2015 when the majority of construction materials were received from across Canada, consolidated and shipped. That season more than 2,500 truckloads, including 24 million litres of fuel, travelled the 420km over frozen lakes and roads to the site. Gahcho Kue is expected to produce 4.5 million carats per annum over the life of the mine, with commercial operation to be achieved in the first quarter of 2017. The project is located approximately 280 km northeast of Yellowknife.
With a career spanning over 25 years, and a proven track record for project delivery, Kevin is an accomplished constructor, successfully delivering quality assets in the mining sector for Nickel, Copper and Gold clients and more recently, a greenfield Diamond Mine in the challenging Sub-Arctic. With an outstanding safety record, bettering industry standards for the previous 10 years, Kevin has applied his expertise throughout the full project life-cycle including front end planning, constructability set up and governance, mobilization, execution and commissioning.
On behalf of mine joint venture partners De Beers Canada (51%) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49%), Hatch led the engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) team at Gahcho Kue and was responsible for the design and implementation of the mine's processing plant. As Site Manger Kevin provided expertise, implemented and governed processes of all construction inputs for finalization of the FEL3 study. Upon receipt of permitting, Kevin mobilized an integration team to site followed by staffing for full project execution. Kevin managed all construction and indirect supports as well as De Beers integrated operations, and maintained all legal responsibility for the site on behalf of De Beers. He established infrastructure and met all major project milestones throughout the project, positioning the project for safe delivery, 5 months ahead of schedule and within budget. (Peak manpower 1200).
