Bioremediation With Microbial Technology
Using Extreme Bacteria in Extreme Environments to Clean Mines
Dr. Nadia Mykytczuk, Industrial Research Chair for Laurentian's School of the Environment, is studying the microbiology of extreme environments (natural and engineered) with a focus on developing, optimizing and prototyping biomining and bioremediation microbial technology. There is great need, therefore, for the eco-friendly, cost-effective alternative provided by microbial-based remediation.
Why is this relevant in mining?
Managing and treating the ~5000 abandoned mine sites in Ontario alone is of significant socioeconomic and environmental concern.
Doors open at 11:30am
Lunch served at 12:00pm
