- Tour the iconic Halifax Citadel by candlelight with a 78th Highlander as your guide, and explore its fortified rooms and casemates
- See how British army soldiers like the 78th Highlanders celebrated the holidays
- Sit around a soldiers’ winter campfire as you listen to stories of ghosts and enjoy a hot drink
- Watch a show from a real, antique “magic lantern” similar to those used in the schoolroom at the Halifax Citadel in the 1860s
- Meet the Victorian-era Father Christmas!

Location
Please meet at the front gate of the Halifax Citadel at the designated program start time.
Guests travelling on foot can reach the front gate via the sidewalk from Sackville Street or the stairs and pathway from Brunswick Street (beneath the town clock). Guests travelling by vehicle can park in the pull-offs located along the Citadel’s perimeter road.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
Cancellations with refunds are accepted up to 48 hours prior to the scheduled date of the tour (please note that Eventbrite’s fees are not refundable).
Participants will be notified 24 hours in advance if the tour is cancelled due to inclement weather, if we have not met our minimum number of participants to run the tour, or for other unforeseen circumstances. If a program is cancelled by the HCS, participants will receive a full refund (including Eventbrite fees). Good to Know
Each tour group is limited to no more than 15 participants
Tours include indoor and outdoor locations, so wearing warm clothes, hats, and gloves or mittens is highly recommended!
