Event description

Description

CBXP is an OPPI Toronto District Partnership Event bringing together practicing and future City Builders to engage with each other in a collaborative setting amongst peers from many diverse backgrounds such as Architects, Planners, Engineers, Urban Designers, Landscape Architects, Land Economists and Policy Makers.

The event is to be hosted by the Ryerson University School of Urban & Regional Planning and Department of Architectural Sciences, as well as the University Of Toronto John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. The expo will feature a variety of informative panel discussions on topics in relation to 'Interconnected Cities'.

Also part of the City Building Expo are walking tours that investigate emerging initiatives being undertaken in the core of Canada's largest city, design workshops that enable participants to provide their expertise in solving a real-world design/policy related issue and also various keynote presentations.

Day 1 will be keynoted by Gil Penalosa, Founder and Chair of 8 80 Cities, World Urban Parks Chair & Former Bogota Commissioner of Parks. During his tenure, Gil successfully led the design and development of hundreds of parks including Simon Bolivar, a 113 hectare park in the heart of the city. Gil's team also led the "new Ciclovia"/ Open Streets - a program that sees over 1.5 million people walk, run, skate and bike along 121 kilometers / 76 miles of Bogotá's city streets every Sunday, and today is internationally recognized and emulated.

Day 2 will be keynoted by Fadi Masoud, Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism at the Daniels Faculty where his current work focuses on establishing relationships between large-scale dynamic environmental systems, design, and the instrumentality of planning frameworks, policies, and codes. Masoud practiced as a landscape architect and a planner at several leading firms in Canada and the United States including West8, HOK, and NAK.
