Matthew is a self taught perfumer from Vancouver, Canada and is known for creating thick, rich, vintage inspired perfumes.

This is an intense study, and beginner to intermeddiate level course.
Purpose of the Course:
- To create 10 vintage formulas.
- To familiarize yourself with the most important vintage perfume materials.
- To learn the various "types," or genre of classic perfumes.
- To understand what makes a fougere a fougere, and a chypre a chypre.
- To exchange knowledge, be ctreative and make new friends within the perfume community.
- To inspire others and be inspired!
To beat the COVID blues and do something constructive with your time!
COURSE OVERVIEW
- 18 hours of live online lessons
- Each lesson is recorded, you can view it at a later date if you miss class
- These are online group lessons using Zoom
- Each lesson is 2 hours in length (10 am to 12 noon)
- DAYS: Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday mornings (9 lessons total)

MATERIALS and SUPPLIES *You will need these tools and materials to take part in class.
- 50 natural and synthetic perfum materials from Pefumers Apprentice. Approximately $248 USD.
- The above materials set comes with 50 pipettes and 200 scent strips
- You will need 70 dropper bottles each 15ml in volume
- You will need 1 litre of perfumers alcohol.
- You will need a scale that is acurate from 0.01 grams to 100grams.
The total cost of this course, lessons fees and all material will be about $1000. *(you do not need to purchase the materials or scale, or bottles if you already have them!)
Schedule
FREE Pre Class (2 hours from 10am to 12 noon)
- learn to dilute materials to 10% in alcohol
- learn how to use your scale
- learn to use the Excel spreadsheet for perfumery
- understanding the “mistakes are ok,” experimental mindset
Homework: Make the Grojsman type accord
Class 1: Wednesday: have the “Grojsman Type Accord” ready
- In Class: make and discuss a vintage style cologne
- Applying the Grojsman type accord, and using modern white musks with your cologne.
- Homework: Make the Mousse De Saxe type accord
Class 2: Saturday; have your Mousse De Saxe type accord ready
- In Class: making, and understanding the character of a vintage fougere
- Applying the Mousse De Saxe Accord to your Fougere
- Homework: Make the Amber Type Accord
Class 3: Sunday - have your amber accord ready
- In Class: making, and understanding the character of a warm woody perfume
- Applying the Amber accord to formulas
- Homework: Make the Mellis Type Accord
Class 4: Wednesday - have your Mellis Accord ready
- In Class: Making, understand a classic Chypre Perfume
- Applying the Mellis Accord to the base of your Chypre Perfume
- Homework: Make the Ambrienne Accord
Class 5: Saturday - have your Ambrienne type accord ready
- In Class: Make a Chanel No 5-type perfume
- applying the Ambrienne and Gojsman Accords to your French Floral
- Homework: Make the leather accord
Class 6: Sunday - have your leather accord ready
- In Class: making a leather perfume
- Mixing: leather pefume with leather accords
- Homework: Make powdery perfume
Class 7: Wednesday: have your Mousse De Saxe accord ready to use
- In Class: Classic powdery pefume
- Mixing: Powdery perfume with ANY of your accords!
- Homework: Think about your perfume. What will you make?
Class 8: Saturday
- In Class: Matt helps you with your formula
- In Class 2: Close examination of materials; oak moss patchouli, vetiver, IBQ and birch tar.
Final Class 9: Sunday:
- Talk about the perfume you have made
- Review of close exmaination of materials; oak moss patchouli, vetiver, IBQ and birch tar.
Mathew will provide you with
- a suggested reading list for your perfumery education
- useful internet resources
- he will discuss his mindset, keys to experimentation and creative process
*NOTE: The Materials Level 1 Course (in depth analysis and discussion of natural and synthetic perfume materials) is meant to follow this course.
