Event description

Description

You are invited to attend a one-day workshop hosted by the Ontario Centre for Climate Impacts and Adaptation Resources (OCCIAR) and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) Parry Sound District Office.

The effects of climate change have already been felt in Ontario, as the province has faced more extreme weather events over the past decade with unparalleled damage. The increasing frequency and intensity of weather extremes poses risks to infrastructure, including transportation, buildings, stormwater, and shorelines. Therefore, it is important to identify how climate variability will manifest itself and how those climate hazards will translate into impacts and risks for waterfront property owners.

This workshop will feature various presentations from experts in the field, and is intended to help inform Muskoka River watershed waterfront property owners about; climate change, extreme weather, watershed ecology and functions, Muskoka river water management and what they can do to help improve resiliency of their waterfront property. Speakers participating will include climate adaptation experts, weather specialists, provincial and local watershed managers and aquatic scientists, and the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations (FOCA).

Lunch will be provided!

Presentation Topics:

- The Changing Climate

- Extreme Weather and Risks to Shoreline Infrastructure

- Water Management in Muskoka

- Effects of Climate Change on Ontario’s Aquatic Ecosystems

- Improving Shoreline Resilience

And more….
