VISION

**This is a non-alcoholic, family friendly event**

Vancouver is a pillar of the arts and culture community, acting as a beacon of liberated lifestyle for the rest of the world.
In a time when the theme of celebrated unity within diversity is rising across the globe, we have an opportunity to invigorate our community on the international stage through the curation of connective cultural experiences.

In recent years this unique and irreplaceable culture is being seriously threatened by venue closures, commercial development, and a push towards corporate monoculture. As young, passionate artists begin abandoning Vancouver due to the deterioration of resources necessary for their livelihood, the need for collaborative arts events that have direct impact on the local community has never been higher.

The challenges our city faces come with a tremendous opportunity to generate positive impact. Through fully immersive experiences that viscerally demonstrate the power of creative expression as a tool for empowered cultural change, we can blast out an inspirational and activating energy to mobilize the community to keep Vancouver’s culture alive – and take it to new heights.

Join us, as TOGETHER WE RISE

WORKSHOP DETAILS

Music As Medicine

Lydia Violet will introduce us to the Work That Reconnects (WTR), a dynamic, interactive body of work developed by Joanna Macy; a scholar and respected elder in systems theory, deep ecology, and Buddhism as well as 50+ years of international activism.

Through a series of teachings and an experiential exercise from the body of the WTR, we'll learn tools, meditations, and concepts that we can rest into and organize with, in our desires to be effective allies to both planet and people.

We will weave back and forth between the WTR and group music making, as Lydia share's songs that she has collected over her years of community music-making. Singing in a council of friends is one of the most healthful, encouraging, invigorating, and nourishing things that we know. Hearts opened by grief and celebration want to sing their songs of longing, despair, belonging, reckoning, valiant warrior-ship, and gentle loving kindness.

It's our birthright (and a deep need of today's world) to engage in this culture-creation together.

- Lydia has an M.A. in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness from CIIS. She has studied closely with deep ecology elder and Buddhist scholar Joanna Macy for the past 9 years, learning how we can metabolize our pain for the world into energy for resilience, action, and community. Two years ago she pioneered, “Music As Medicine In Our Time” with Penny Livingston at the Regenerative Design Institute in Bolinas, CA. In this workshop she brings together facilitation of Joanna Macy’s “Work That Reconnects” with exploring movement music that nourishes resilience, promotes justice, and facilitates healing in our communities.
