Event description

Description

Jack Kenna is a visual artist working primarily with painting, drawing, and ceramic sculpture. His work consists of a visual vocabulary of objects and motifs that are often repeated and reorganized from work to work so as to evolve and complicate meaning over time. He also engages with paint on a material level, bringing attention to the process by which illusions are constructed. By simultaneously constructing and deconstructing the figurative image, his paintings create playful spaces that subvert expectations and invite viewers to double-take or inspect their surfaces more carefully.

Jack (b. 1994 in Durango, Colorado) currently lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. Co-founder of the Ground Floor Art Centre (2018), he also works collaboratively to provide accessible exhibition and community building opportunities to other young and emerging artists. Jack will receive his BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in May 2019.

The artist gratefully and respectfully acknowledges that this work was made and is exhibited on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples."
