Event description

Description

Got clothes that you don't like, won't throw away, but haven't gotten rid of yet? Welll......

WE'VE GOT A SWAP FOR YOU. Join us for a clothing swap and screening of RIVERBLUE. RIVERBLUE brings awareness to the destruction of a some of the world’s most vital rivers through the manufacturing of our clothing, but will also act as a demand for significant change in the textile industry from the top fashion brands that can make a difference.

Bring at least TWO lightly used, clean garments in order to join the swap! (ex: sweaters, tees, pants, skirts, dresses, shirts... only textile items please). Clothing swaps are a wonderful way to reduce textile waste. You can get rid of garments that you don't wear, while scoring a couple new-to-you pieces to spruce up your wardrobe. All remaining clothing items will be donated to Boutiques d'occasion pour NOVA/Thrift Shops for NOVA, and Dress for Success Montreal. These two charities are doing wonderful work in the montreal community, raising money for visiting nurses and clothing women in affordable business attire.

There is NO LIMIT on how much you can take home, but you must contribute (at least) 2 garment pieces to enter the swap. The event is completely FREE to attend. The event will take place from 6pm-9pm on the 3rd floor of the Notman House, in the 'St. Urbain' room. Snacks will be available! Please register for free on eventbrite, as there are only 100 spots available:

Thanks to the generous support of TakingITGlobal, We will be screening RIVER BLUE, a documentary that discusses the true cost of our clothing, and the toll that dyes & dumping takes on our waterways. Did you know that the fashion industry is the world's second largest polluter, after the oil industry? Did you know that the world's garment consumption has doubled between 2000 and 2015? Where is all this waste going, and how are these garments made so quickly?

Watch the RiverBlue trailer here.

Let's investigate together, and do some sustainable 'swapping' instead of chain store shopping.
